ADVENTURE AWAITS – Kruger National Park

Watching the setting moon, hearing jackals bark, love the rustling grass, fish eagles cry, a lion’s rasping roar heard in the distance, sleeping beneath the stars, and being at peace once more – this is Africa ! THE DESTINATION The Kruger National Park, in northeastern South Africa, is one of Africa’s largest game reserves. Its high density of wild animals includes the Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo. Hundreds of other mammals make their home here, as do diverse bird species such as vultures, eagles and storks. Mountains, bush plains and tropical forests are all part of the landscape. “The Kruger National Park – in the heart of the Lowveld, is a wildlife sanctuary like no other, its atmosphere so unique that it allows those who enter its vastness, to immerse themselves in the unpredictability and endless wilderness that is the true quality of Africa. This is why my family loves our annual trips to the Kruger National Park. THE SPACE It’s a space larger than Israel and delivers indescribable wildlife experiences. It’s the land of baobabs, fever trees, knob thorns, marula and mopane trees, underneath which lurk our Big Five, the Little Five (buffalo weaver, elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, ant lion and rhino beetle ) as well as the birding Big Six…intrigued? A visit is a must! OUR TRAVEL ACCESSORIES Travelling in the comfort of a fully accessorized Toyota Hilux, a special thanks to 4×4 Mega World of course, a company that I have been part of for almost two decades, we experienced a pleasurable drive in differing terrains, and made good use of the Old Man Emu Suspension system, Cooper tyres, Outback Roller Drawer system, which fitted all our luggage, (a lot of luggage considering three Italian females on board who never travel lightly ), as well as our ARB Frontal protection and ARB high intensity spotlights, and Front Runner Roofracks. WHERE WE STAYED We stayed in the Southern part of the Kruger Park region, bounded by the Crocodile River in the south and the Sabie River in the north. The Southern region of the Kruger National Park is host to the jagged ridge of the Lebombo Mountains along the border of Mozambique. THE EXPERIENCE Our days were spent on self-drive games drives – Kruger caters for all types of vehicles just by the way – even a favourite of mine is a tiny Fiat 500 is a regular sight on Kruger roads , as well as daily sights of lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and numerous game. Heart-stopping excitement of tracking animals by day, and experiencing total peace and tranquility under the dark, yet star-lit night skies, is incomparable.
